Shorts, Man's, Shore

Just off the crate, ready for the white sand beaches…

Our Sailor had those custom after spotting a roll of ‘white denim’ hiding in a corner of the MFSC Tailor of the Mombasa Port in Kenya. The fabric was originally loomed to make Naval Base barrack bags and had been printed on the reverse with a red MFSC anchor. Bags? F’gedaboudit! After having his Shore jacket custom tailored with it, there was just enough left to put together a pair of bermudas. His CO made sure he had them stenciled “Not for Deck Duty Use” on the inside. Before long, our sailor hit the beach wearing a white Tshirt, navy deck sneakers and his custom bermudas!

FABRIC:

Original limited small batch edition MFSC “white Denim”.

• 11 ounces
• Indigo weft and white warp
• Sanforized: Minimal width shrinkage and 3 to 5% in length
• Indigo blue solid selvedge

PATTERN/SPECS:

• Original MFSC pattern based on pattern of the MFSC N-1K, Foul weather deck pants.
• Below knee “corsair” cut.
• Offset hip patch pockets.
• Two knee pockets, for surf wax etc…
• Indigo blue/black chambray pocket lining.
• Inside waistband reinforced by selvedge “301” denim, stacked stitching.
• Inside stencil “Not for Deck Duty Use”
• Concealed red MFSC anchor print on inside leg.
• CPO style anchor button front fly. Double waist black painted steel donut crest buttons.
• Rear slash pockets.
• 100% cotton indigo blue thread, hi-count stitch.

Another slice of the MFSC Spring09 Collection…Our Sailor had these two shirts custom made for his time off duty. As his usual blue utility chambray was asigned to hard work aboard the ship, he combined his favorite pattern (MFSC 645) with more ‘civilian’ fabrics picked up at the “MFSC Naval Supply Research” to wear on shore. These shirts were custom made for him, as “Experimental Garments”.

FABRIC:

• MFSC original end-on-end 100% cotton selvedge  “chambray”.
• 645n: Indigo blue and black woven yarns.
• 645w: Ivory and white woven yarns.
• 100% Cotton indigo dyed facing.

Non-Sanforized fabric will approximately shrink a whole size down when washed/dryed.

• Original MFSC 645 pattern.
• Original “slant” selvedge left chest pocket..
• Concealed right chest passport pocket .
• Chin strap.

Pants, Denim, Shore

FABRIC:

Original dark indigo MFSC denim “301”, solid white narrow selvedge.

• Un-Sanforized 11oz denim, guaranteed to bleed.
• Shrinks to ‘true’ size, shrinkage 5 to 8%, depending on water/drying temperature.
• MFSC original blue “Chambray fabric” pockets and waist lining.

PATTERN/SPECS:

• Original MFSC pattern, inspired by a pair of 1920’s custom tailored naval trousers, white summer issue.
• Two side “officer” type cargo pockets, safari flaps. Pockets expand to hold wallet, phone etc… Easy access, secure and no unbalanced volume when seating.
• 1910’s naval lace-up back, an alternative to buckle-back cinching, detail also carried over on rare 1930’s denim workwear. Adds an extra inch to the waist when fully opened. Indigo died HBT cotton tape.
• Two selvedge front slash pockets.
• CPO type Anchor buttons front fly.
• Selvedge slim belt loops, for 2 inches wide belts.
• Single panel wrap leg construction.
• Selvedge crotch extension patch.
• White cotton HBT inside seat taping.
• Side eyelets for hanging dry brass laundry pins.
• Straight legs, utility trousers silhouette.
• Long inseam to allow roll-up
• MF® Modified: 2 original MF® exclusive denim back pockets added. As a ‘theater-made’ modification, we used mis-matching MFSC indigo denim scraps from end of rolls. Pocket design is consistant but the denim used is random (301,401, 11oz, 14oz…). Note: We cannot do any custom modifications to items not purchased directly from Mister Freedom®.

OVERSHIRT, MAN'S, CPO modified

We were able to secure a small re-run of the modified CPO denim shirt. The last chapter of the “MFSC Naval Clothing Tailors” has unfolded.

The two previous collections, Spring 08 and Fall 08, captured the working gear and duty clothes that our Sailor had custom tailored in local ports during his 10 year service at sea in the Merchant Navy.

His duty Tour ended in 1946 in the waters of the Indian Ocean. Thereafter the whereabouts of our Seaman are unknown, but his wooden personal locker recently surfaced in a Southern California estate sale.

Unopened for over 60 years it contained a collection of his personal clothes, tailor made for his private use, when on shore leave and off duty.

The designs of this personal wardrobe came from the “MFSC Naval Supply Research” department and some items were labeled as “Experimental Garment” and made in very limited quantities as test pieces. None of them were intended to be worn on board during service, but rare photographs show our Sailor proudly sporting these garments while at liberty on some Indian Ocean shores…

The locker contained:

• MFSC JS-09: A white denim Shore Jacket
• MFSC PS-09: A pair of denim trousers
• MFSC 645-N and 645-W: Two off-duty custom color Chambray shirts
• MFSC SS-09: A pair of white denim Bermudas
• MFSC VS-09: A multi-pocket denim vest

Also included was a collection of three graphic promotional and advertising T-shirts that where given to him as a valued customer of the MFSC Naval Clothing Tailor shops. His ship’s Tour shirt was also included, the front featuring the ship’s emblem and a stenciled back with major anchoring ports…

For shore leave, our Sailor had this denim vest custom Tailor made by the “MFSC Naval Tailors”, Naval Supply Research Dept.

All 301 SC denim shell and survival raft yellow coated twill lining. Eight pockets total, external & concealed, for storing everything from Iphone (Yeah, I know…), to passport, to double currency while traveling on some Indian Ocean shores.
